IFS & Direct Access: The Key to Unlocking the Secret History of Parts
Workshop Description
Direct Access is an essential skill in Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy often used in the process of unblending extreme parts. Practitioners may use this skill exclusively in their most challenging sessions and may struggle with this skill or lack the confidence to use it effectively. This workshop will teach skills and concepts to help practitioners become more confident and competent using Direct Access more frequently.
Learning this skill of Direct Access will inherently improve your ability to navigate the 6 Fs, creating a better Self to Part relationship and ultimately understanding the Internal Family System model better. This workshop will teach practical and experiential ways to use this technique
in becoming proficient so when challenging sessions arise it will be a natural and well honed skill.
Intended audience: counselors, social workers, marriage and family therapists, psychologists, practitioners
Formal training in the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model is recommended but not required.
Learning Objectives:
- Define the difference between implicit and explicit direct access and when to use with clients.
- Identify the importance of practicing direct access in sessions to increase competence.
- Refine the process of the 6Fs using direct access.
- Create a more confident and conversational application of direct access.
- Learn to incorporate experiential techniques in using direct access.
